The new Global Birdfair has been spearheaded by Tim Appleton MBE, founder of the original Birdfair back in 1989. This brand new event will bring together wildlife conservationists, representatives of nature travel, birders and natural history enthusiasts from all over the world.

The original Birdfair was a celebration of all things nature, an action packed and fun event to attend. Tens of thousands of people visited the event each year. It was the biggest event of its kind in the world, over the years it raised over £5m for bird conservation projects worldwide.

At the end of 2021 the organisers of the original Birdfair made the decision not to continue to stage the event post-Covid. Global Birdfair picked up the event baton from its predecessor to run a not-for-profit festival along the lines of the old British Birdfair.

The new Global Birdfair will be just as effective at supporting the work of conserving bird species and natural habitats around the world as the original, something that is even more important in today’s environmental climate.

Over the past two years life across the planet has been disrupted in so many ways, with the natural world no exception. However, the crisis brought about by the spread of the coronavirus and a growing awareness of climate change have changed approaches to nature.

Tim Appleton;

“If there has been one benefit that has come out of the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been a huge increase in many people’s appreciation and awareness of their local environments. Now that global travel is opening up once more, I hope many newcomers will come to enjoy the new Global Birdfair, which will showcase everything the birding and wildlife industry and conservation projects around the world have to offer.”

I had spoken at the last ever Birdfair staged in 2019. I’d also spoken at previous Birdfair’s and in 2010 had a stand there displaying my photography work and tours. So I was devastated like so many others that it had ended.

So I’m pleased to announce I will be delivering my Best of British talk twice on separate days at the new Global Birdfair at the Rutland show ground.

Best of British

“Witness some of the amazing wildlife we have here in the UK with my talk that celebrates all that is beautiful in our British countryside. From my early life as a member of the YOC – (young ornithologist club) to the present my talk will show you why I’m so passionate about our stunning wildlife here in the British Isles.

I’ve photographed a lot of that wildlife spending time in places where I grew up in and found my passion for the natural world. From the Peak District to as far as the Shetland isles to our dramatic coastline I will show and inspire you with the best of British wildlife.” – craig jones
